Lighthouse Family Law LLP (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal information through our website, lighthousefamilylaw.ca. Information we receive while representing a client is also protected by solicitor-client privilege, our professional obligations under the Law Society of Ontario’s Rules of Professional Conduct, and our retainer agreements.

Information we collect

  • Contact form: your name, email address, phone number (optional) and message. Please do not include confidential details of your situation in the form. Sending us a message does not create a lawyer-client relationship.
  • Consultation bookings: our online booking page is provided by Clio Grow (Themis Solutions Inc.). It collects the information you enter there, which Clio handles under its own privacy policy on our behalf.
  • Email and phone: the information you give us when you contact us directly.
  • Website analytics: Google Analytics uses cookies to record how visitors use the site, such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and the site that referred you. We use this only to understand and improve the website. You can opt out by blocking cookies in your browser or by using Google’s opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • Security logs: our web host and security tools record IP addresses and technical information to protect the website from misuse.

How we use it

  • To respond to your inquiry and schedule a consultation.
  • To check for conflicts of interest before we discuss a matter with you.
  • To operate, secure and improve the website.

We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing without your consent.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run our practice and website, such as our web host, email provider, booking provider and analytics provider, and only as needed for those services. They must protect it and use it only for the services they provide to us. We may also disclose information where required by law. Some providers may store or process information outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that country.

How long we keep it

We keep inquiry information only as long as needed for the purposes above, including our conflict-checking records, and then dispose of it securely. Information about clients is kept as required by the Law Society of Ontario.

How we protect it

We use reasonable physical, organizational and technical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of sending information over the internet is completely secure, so please do not send confidential information through the contact form.

Your choices and rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to our use of it, subject to legal and professional restrictions. To make a request, contact our Privacy Officer.
